Coal Mine Sand Table Model Production Process

I. Foundation Construction Stage
A layered production method is adopted. First, a 5mm acrylic board is laser-cut to form the terrain outline, and then thermal bending technology is used to shape the undulating topography of the mining area. The tunnel system is constructed using pre-embedded ABS round tubes, with the tube walls manually scraped to create coal seam textures. Miniature LED lights are installed at key nodes to simulate mine lamp illumination. Ground-level buildings are carved from birch plywood panels, while steel structures such as mine frames and coal silos are assembled from etched metal sheets. Rivet details are manually inserted using 0.3mm copper wire.
2. Scene Refinement Process
Coal seam representation: Gypsum powder and coal ash are mixed in a 3:1 ratio, with brownish-red mineral pigments added. A ‘scraping-spraying’ alternating process is used to form 7-8 layers of sedimentary texture.
Equipment reproduction: The coal cutter is cast from zinc alloy and aged, while the conveyor belt is made from genuine rubber. Dynamic parts are designed with a 1:100 real-world movement gap.
Tunnel Support: H-shaped steel frames are produced using photo-etching technology, sandblasted, and then immersed in a rusting solution for 72 hours to form an oxide layer.
III. Colour Treatment System
Base Colouring: The entire surface is first sprayed with matte black paint, then mineral colour powder is dry-brushed to highlight geological faults.
Equipment coating: Engineering machinery is coated with multiple layers of enamel paint, with key areas undergoing ‘triple oil stain rendering’ (dark brown stain wash → rust spot staining → oil gloss).
Environmental integration: Coal piles are rendered using electrostatic flocking technology, with custom-made coal ash (crushed coke + graphite powder) applied via screening to create a natural accumulation effect.
4. Dynamic effect integration
Transportation system: Hidden miniature motors drive the pulleys, with speed controlled at 0.5 m/min to simulate real-world operations
Lighting system: Warm-light LEDs are installed every 20 cm in the tunnels, with a control unit achieving a ‘mining lamp movement’ lighting effect
Mist effect: Ultrasonic mist generators are installed at ventilation shaft locations, combined with blue cold light to depict airflow
