Project Background
This case study involves a scale sand table model of a new energy demonstration park, encompassing a photovoltaic array, wind turbine farm, and smart microgrid system, with a target accuracy of over 90%. A modular layered manufacturing process was employed to ensure that each system could be displayed independently.
Core Production Processes
1. Terrain Base Construction
High-density polyurethane foam material is used to carve the terrain contours, with CNC precision milling forming contour lines.
An eco-friendly gypsum mixture is applied to the surface, with manual shaping of road ruts and drainage ditch details.
Magnetic base interfaces are embedded for easy transportation and disassembly.
2. Renewable Energy Equipment Reproduction
Photovoltaic arrays: Acrylic laser-cut panels simulate solar panels, with a vacuum-coated surface finish for a matte texture.
Wind turbine clusters: 3D-printed resin blades with micro-bearings enable manual rotation, while the tower cylinders are made from etched stainless steel sheets.
Energy storage stations: ABS injection-moulded housings with embedded LED light strips, featuring transparent doors to display battery module arrangements.
3. Power transmission and distribution system
Custom-made 0.3mm enameled wire simulates high-voltage cables, with poles along the line assembled using brass etched components
Substation buildings are formed by thermoforming PE sheets, with window frames using laser-engraved film application technology
Innovative material applications
Photovoltaic panel matrix: Custom gradient grey acrylic panels achieve varying reflections under different sunlight angles
Vegetation system: Electrostatic flocking combined with mineral pigments creates a multi-layered ground cover effect
Dynamic water bodies: Epoxy resin layered casting with embedded micro-mist generators simulating water vapour rising
Post-processing system
1. Industrial-grade coating standards
Wind power equipment: First apply a grey primer, then use a sponge dipping method to create a metallic oxide texture
Building complex: Use automotive-grade pearlescent paint, combined with masking spray painting to achieve a reflective effect on the facade
Surface treatment: Oil paint staining process to enhance terrain shadows, with local dry brushing to highlight wear and tear
2. Smart Interaction Enhancement
Magnetic control switches are hidden beneath the road surface; when triggered, corresponding LED light strips gradually illuminate
Removable photovoltaic panel assemblies enable quick replacement via rear clips for demonstration purposes
