Case Study of Medical Imaging Equipment Model Production
1、 Model overview
The medical imaging equipment model produced this time is based on a CT scanner, and the main structure of the equipment is restored in a 1:8 ratio, including the scanning chamber, examination bed, and control console. The overall size of the model is 35cm × 20cm × 25cm, using a classic medical equipment color scheme with white as the main color and black as the auxiliary color. The circular scanning cabin is equipped with a blue LED light source to simulate the working state, and the console screen restores the real scanning image, with an overall restoration rate of 92%.

2、 Material selection
Main structure: ABS engineering plastic is selected as the main material, which has the characteristics of high strength and impact resistance, suitable for representing the tough lines of equipment. The arc-shaped shell of the scanning cabin is made of 0.5mm thick ABS sheet and shaped through hot bending technology; The bed frame is cut and spliced with 3mm thick ABS board to ensure stable load-bearing capacity.
Transparent component: The circular scanning window is made of PMMA acrylic plate, with a light transmittance of 92%, and presents a crystal texture after polishing. The console display screen uses 0.3mm thick transparent PET sheet, with high-definition printed scanned image stickers attached to the back.
Detail decoration: The equipment identification text adopts PVC adhesive engraving, and the inspection table top uses black matte PVC board, simulating the anti slip material of real equipment.
3、 Production process
(1) Data collection
Use Blender software for model optimization, with a focus on preserving feature details such as the hexagonal outline of the scanning cabin and the tilt angle of the console. Split the model into 12 components for independent design, ensuring printing accuracy is controlled within 0.1mm.
(2) 3D printing molding
Main components: The scanning cabin shell is printed using FDM melt deposition technology, with a layer thickness of 0.15mm and a filling density of 30%. After printing, the supporting structure is removed and the surface is initially ground with 400 grit sandpaper.
Precision components: Small parts such as the inspection bed lifting mechanism are printed using SLA photopolymerization. White photosensitive resin is selected as the resin material, and after printing, it is cleaned with alcohol and cured with ultraviolet light to ensure clear details.
(3) Manual assembly
Structural splicing: ABS special adhesive is used for component bonding, and metal positioning pins are installed at the connection between the scanning cabin and the base to ensure that the assembly error does not exceed 0.5mm.
Activity structure: The inspection table top is designed as a sliding structure, which can move smoothly within a range of 10cm through a 0.8mm diameter stainless steel shaft and track.
4、 Surface treatment and coloring
Polishing: Use 400 grit, 800 grit, and 1200 grit sandpapers to gradually polish the printed parts, with a focus on processing the curved transition surface of the scanning chamber until the surface roughness Ra is ≤ 0.8 μ m.
Primer treatment: Spray gray epoxy primer, dry and lightly polish with 2000 grit sandpaper to remove pinholes and orange peel lines, and enhance the adhesion of the topcoat.
Topcoat spraying: The main white color is coated with matte polyurethane paint, which is thinly applied three times with a 0.3mm diameter spray pen, with a 20 minute interval between each layer; The black part is coated with glossy nitrocellulose paint, highlighting the layering of the control panel area.
Detail coating: The scanning cabin "SLAB" logo adopts a cover spraying process, with the blue illuminated area coated with transparent blue paint, and then sprayed with gloss oil for protection after drying.
5、 Installation of lighting system
The circular scanning cabin is equipped with three 3V patch LED beads, which are connected to the CR2032 button battery inside the base through a 1mm diameter enameled wire. The lamp group is controlled by a PWM dimming module, which can simulate two lighting modes: standby and working. The light passes through the acrylic window and presents a uniform blue halo effect.
