Case study of sand table model production in industrial plant area
1、 Preliminary research: Make the model "soulful"
After receiving a sand table order from a certain chemical park, we first conducted an on-site inspection of the park, recorded the building layout and pipeline route, and then combined it with the process flow drawings to sort out the production logic. The team repeatedly compares the logic of "real factory area → drawings → models" to ensure that every detail is based on evidence - such as the exhaust direction of chimneys and the arrangement order of storage tanks, which must correspond one-to-one with reality.
2、 Material selection: Make the model "textured"
Main body of the building: Cut the building outline with PVC board, and then stick acrylic board to make the exterior wall, simulating the transparency of the glass curtain wall;
Pipeline system: Use blue PVC pipes as the conveying pipeline and red PVC pipes as the steam pipeline to restore the real pipeline function;
Storage tank and chimney: the storage tank uses resin as the cylinder, and the chimney uses foam board as the cone, and then sticks metal texture stickers;
Vegetation coverage: simulated lawns (green series) are used for green spaces, resin trees (simulated trunk texture) are used for trees, and small shrub models are used to enrich the layers;
Water performance: The lake uses blue resin and reflective film to simulate the luster of the water surface; Rivers are made of deep blue resin, highlighting the differences in water depth.
3、 Production process: the transformation from "flat" to "three-dimensional"
Terrain shaping:
First, use hot-melt adhesive on the foam board to stack the terrain in the factory area, and then use sandpaper to polish the edges to make the terrain transition natural.
Building assembly:
Cut the PVC board according to the drawing ratio, paste it into the building outline with hot melt adhesive, then paste the acrylic board to make the exterior wall, and finally polish the joints with fine sandpaper to make the building stand firmly and look real.
Pipeline laying:
Plan the pipeline route according to the drawings, use PVC pipes to paste in sections, and then use a carving knife to mark the pipeline identification, so that the pipeline "runs" smoothly and "divides" clearly.
Tank and chimney construction:
The storage tank is made into a cylindrical shape with resin, and then covered with metal texture stickers; The chimney is tapered with foam board, pasted with metal stickers to simulate the real chimney, and finally fixed with hot melt adhesive to ensure that it is stable and not crooked.
Vegetation planting:
First, lay a simulated lawn in the green area, then insert resin trees and place small shrubs to simulate natural distribution; Trees are fixed with hot melt adhesive to ensure stability and prevent tilting.
Water body construction:
Fill lakes and rivers with resin, and then apply reflective film to simulate water surface gloss; Polish the edges of the river with sandpaper to make the water flow naturally.
4、 Post processing: Bring the model to life
Coloring and Details:
Use acrylic paint to color the exterior walls, pipes, and vegetation of the building, and then use a fine pen to outline the building contours and pipe markings, making the colors "accurate" and "fine".
Lighting Design:
Embed LED light strips at the top of the building and below the pipes to simulate nighttime lighting effects; Adjust the brightness with a controller to make the model "bright" with layers.
Dynamic effects:
Install a small smoke machine on the chimney to simulate smoke exhaust; Install micro motors into pipelines to simulate material transportation; Install small motors on vehicles, simulate transportation, and make the model "move" really.
Overall adjustment:
Repeatedly check from different angles, adjust the building position and vegetation density to ensure a 90% restoration degree - such as the smoke exhaust direction of chimneys, the arrangement order of storage tanks, and the direction of pipelines, all of which should be "lifelike" to the real scene.
